On Wednesday, Jan. 15, at 7:30 p.m., the Doane Choir from Doane University (Crete, Neb.), under the direction of Dr. Kurt Runestad, will give a concert of choral music at All Saints’ Chapel in Sewanee. The University Choir will join the Doane Choir for three collaborative pieces as well as a set of their own music. The concert is free and open to the public. A freewill offering will be collected.
The Doane Choir has toured all over the United States and world, and in the last decade has sung concerts in Austria, Brazil, Estonia, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Lichtenstein, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, and—most recently—South Africa (May 2018). The choir has presented concerts at many of the most prestigious musical cathedrals in Europe, including St. Mark’s Cathedral in Venice, the Thomaskirche in Leipzig, Germany, and the Dom of Cologne, Germany.
Doane University is a liberal arts college of about 1,000 full-time students in Crete, Neb., 20 miles southwest of Lincoln, Nebraska’s capital city. Doane offers four choral organizations that involve more than 100 singers; every interested student has an opportunity to participate. In addition to the Doane Choir, other choral ensembles include Collegiate Chorale, Doublewide, and Jazz Unlimited. Each of the Doane choral ensembles tours annually.
